Celebration time

Over at Crafting with Dragonflies we are celebrating our first birthday. The challenge is to make ANY celebration card tho. The fabulous sponsors this fortnight are :

Prize: $15 to spend in the store.

                                                                     Prize: six digis

Prize: $10 to spend in store.

I was lucky enough to play with a digi from Handmade Harbour AND Make it Crafty. So I decided to combine the two on the front of the card.

I embossed the card using a heart embossing folder through the Bug. Then added  Butterfly Masks from Make it Crafty and coloured them with bright sharpies. The greeting tag is from Handmade Harbour. I was trying to create a carnival atmosphere and added handmade 'throws'/ 'confetti' coloured again with bright sharpies but not sure it's worked.....better in my head than on paper. I'm really not happy with this card :(

For the inside of the card I made a pop-up cake and added a candle and greetings. The greetings Happy B'day and Make a Wish are diecuts added to gold mirri card which was punched using a flower shape punch.
For the pop-up cake I used honeycomb paper. The candle was made from gold mirri card and floral paper from my stash. I added beads and sequins to the candle to give it a bit of sparkle.

Please  try to pop over to Crafting with Dragonflies to see the creations my teamies have made. There are some fab prizes to be won from our generous sponsor so go join in this easy peasy challenge you know you want to!!

HAPPY CRAFTING!!

  1. Wow, a lot going on in this card - firstly, I LIKE the carnival atmosphere and think it has worked well. Secondly, that pop-up cake looks so fun. Hope you are over the Spring rain and enjoying sunshine!

  2. Hi Wynn, This is such a fun and striking card! I think I understand your feelings; these kind of cards are tough to get to look just right, but from my perspective it came out great. I really like the embossed, one-layer card base; very classy. And of course the inside is such a fun surprise! Best, CG

    1. Thanks for your kind words CG. I did think.... scrap it and start again . Those masks were sooooo fiddly to colour and cut. Would have been easier I know if I'd resized them. But Hey ho!! We live and learn xx

  3. Hi Wyn - I am talking about the Z fold card - I saw it in Craft Stamper mag. The instructions were as follows: cut a sheet of A4 into two equal sized pieces; stamp desired images etc; score both pieces into four equal sections (across the long section, not the short); cut a section on an angle from the first score line to roughly a third of way down the shorter edge on one card and use this as template for second one; then I did a mountain fold on them at the biggest end, and put the two folded parts together,so the flaps went left - right. Glued the back of the flaps to a back sheet about standard card size. Then decorate - the ones I saw had strips of acetate holding the deco's (flowers, snowflakes and clocks - not together!) up and sort of cascading down the cards - I didn't do that as I wanted the inner bit to shine - I did use paper hinges on main image so that it didn't get effected by the closure and opening on an angle. Hope this helps.
